Christian Linke, the new prince of German rock....now living, recording and playing in LA
Stadium rock is still very much alive and kicking in Europe and for the last few years former german rock monsters such as The Scorpions or Michael Schenker Group have had their very memory all but eclipsed by a new breed of rock monster to emmerge from the new Neumunster nursing ground of rock and metal. This new rock monster has been continuosly devouring the attentions of the mass festival and stadium crowds of every European mainland nation faster than Michael Schenker could rip up a lead break while crowds of well over a hundred thousand became regular sights wherever the hard rock, rap and screamo fusion of top German crossover band PANIK were played out. It seemed that for the last three years Panik were also very adept at causing severe panic among venue and booking office staff too and wherever they were booked to play Europe's ticket sellers shuddered in fear for their lives from the moment those ticket office doors opened and the stampedes began.
Between 2007 and 2009 the band from Neumunster signed to Universal, switched to Vertigo, had a quick name change from Nevada Tan and, after taking Hamburg by storm, they quickly conquered the continent in a germanic whirlwind of riotous sound. Now one of the key creative figures at the forefront of the Panik advance was the bands bass player and musical composer Christian Linke and just as Dallas Green of Canadian screamos 'Alexis On Fire' formed the pivotal harmonic vocals and melodic compositional edge to the raging fires of the Alexis On Fire screamo firestorm, so too did Linke form that same crucial harmonic anchor in the raging storms of Panik's fired up rap rants and super-screamo riots....it was an edge that clearly set both bands apart in their respective nations. As the supercell of the Panik storm split and began to fade in the final weeks of 2009 following dissagreements over their recording contract the band separated into smaller storm cells and went their seperate ways. While the rap vocalist Timo and Guitarist David Bonk are still drawing crowds under the Panik moniker, that creative musical hub that is Christian Linke has scince relocated with his vast musical talents and is about to give Los Angeles and the rest of America a taste of his own 'City and Colour' as his new works gear up to conquer the States following his debut US release.
With the sounds of Europe's stadiums and monster rock venues still ringing in his ears, Linke is going solo and acoustic right here in LA this Monday with his first live set coming on June 28th at The Mint on West Pico Boulevard at 7pm. 1. How's life in L.A? And what do you think about the climate?
- The climate is awesome, always great weather, and great musicians... I love it. :)
2. What's the worst/best with L.A/the U.S? And what makes it so different from Germany?

- The traffic is HORRIBLE. There is no public transport opportunities, and LA is just HUGE with very long distances... So basically, without a car, you are fucked. big time. And the food here is not really good, its like... European food, but always a really sweetened, unhealthy version of it. :)
3. Are you living on your own, or do you have a roomie?
- I'm living together with a cool guy called Steven right now.
4. Is there anything you miss with Germany/Europe? Will you ever come back?

- Yeah I miss Germany. Hopefully I will come back some times.
5. When did you decide to move to the U.S? Is it an old "childhood" dream, or just something you suddenly, decided to do?

- Hmm, it has always been a childhood dream, but I never really took or planned to take the step. Eventually when we decided to break up as a band, I started to take it seriously and got my green card.
6. How did you get your "green card"? And did you have to do something special to get it?
- Yeah, alot of tests and certifications, took quite some time. Hm not too special stuff, just being educated, having enough money... yeah. And being healthy. :)
7. I think (and have noticed on your facebook comments) that you have a lot of European fans left. Would you like to come back to Europe after releasing your album, for some concerts?
- Yes, hopefully I will find a great label to start off in Europe aswell.
When can we buy your songs "Goodbye" and "No Tomorrow" (new version) on iTunes?

Normal. I barely saw a camera since my mother usually takes photos of animals.

Only a little. I read a few books about the old gods and the superstitions.

Probably in a historical or fantasy movie, I guess. My favorite actors are Ben Foster and Chris Isaacs.
24. Which is the thickest book you've ever read?

Probably Dostoevskys The Idiot. At least it felt really thick. Or the count of monte cristo? Dunno which one is thicker.
25. What's your favourite cartoon hero and if you had superpowers, what would it be?

Its poison! Even though im a kinda jealous person when it comes to a relationship cause im trying to keep what i have, things are too precious to lose them, but in the music scene or in general. People go crazy about it, for no reason they get jealous and its insulting the whole thing. In so many ways the sense of being a musician gets lost, because of jealousy. I had a nice talk with Linke about that recently, musicians are mostly following all the same dream, share their music with the world, deliver their message, move something in people, maybe make a change and express our feelings, memories or thoughts. We should be all friends!
Of course people get envious if someone is getting more famous than someone else, but some people get the wrong sight, they head out for fame, money, get all the chiqs coming up...but thats not my world. Someone told me, if you date a musician you gotta expect hes taking groupies while being on tour and so on. But there are exceptions and im a good example. I never took advantage of groupies or anyone, most of my time being in Cinema Bizarre i were in a relationship and i never cheated on anyone. Im in good handle of myself to not just jump on the next girl once i feel like and my girl isnt around just because im a known musician and its easy go, thats not right...
Its fine if some people go for such stuff, everyone has their own head, but if thats the only reason they wanna get into music, to be famous and be printed everywhere, shown in tv and getting money and the girls...then they suck!
Were talking about art, the art to express yourself when it comes to music, thats what it is about!
It just turns me very sad how the world is turning about that.

As you may saw in the Twitter and Facebook update, his EP will be released on iTunes in 2-3 weeks! :)
So keep your eyes open and be ready to buy it ;)
It seems like there's something wrong with blogg.se right now (not surprised) and that's why somethings might look a bit weird here for today and maybe for the rest of the week, but nothing more about that.
And the update will be a bit bad until next Friday I think. I have 4 graduations to go to until next Friday, I have my graduation dinner and a hell lot of more. So I'm sorry for how it will look like with the updates from tomorrow ;(
